Is it OK to ask for a second wedding menu tasting?

by leony on May 30, 2010

I’m having a wedding in a couple of months and already had a tasting with my caterer for my wedding menu. We customized our menu entrees by asking for two entrees we’ve seen in other places, but we did not provide them with recipes.

We picked out most of our hors d’oeuvres, salads, etc but the taste of the entrees was a little off. We asked about the ingredients and mentioned that the entrees were good but had a little bitterness that is not normal for the dishes. I think they added some unnecessary ingredients and omitted some ingredients that would have made it better.

Is it ok to email them some suggestions/recipes and ask them for another tasting for just the entrees?

Yes. The worst they can do is say no. And if they say no, think about what that means—they probably won’t be very accomodating if you hire them.

I say go for it.

I don’t see why not. It’s your wedding and they still have a few more months to prepare; if they want your business and your referrals, they’ll accomodate you. Just explain your concerns to them when you ask.

Absolutely! It is your wedding, and you are paying them a lot of money to serve you and your guests. You should be satisfied.

Sit down with the caterer and frankly address your concerns. Be specific about what you do and do not like, and what you want. They should be more than willing to go the extra mile and adjust the recipe and offer you a second tasting, especially since you have already mentioned you were unsatisfied and if it just for the entrees. A good caterer will want to please you to get your referrals and should not have agreed to prepare the dishes you requested if they cannot make them in a standardized manner that is to your liking. Best of luck and congrats on the upcoming nuptials!

Of course this is alright. You are spending a lot of money to have the catering service bring the food. Remember this is your day and it should be as perfect as possible.

Your screen name says it. If you are looking for perfection you might want to look closer at your partner than the specific spices in the food…..sorry but you asked
